Popularly known as the “Scotland of South India”, Coorg ranks among the popular hill stations in India. It is located in the state of Karnataka and is surrounded by beautiful mountains and rambling greenery. The scenic beauty and the natural surroundings draw hundreds of tourists.  In addition to it scenic beauty, Coorg in Karnataka is also known for its rich ancient heritage and played and was a major settlement in the Kadamba, Ganga, Chola, Hoysala, and Vijayanagara dynasties. The place is full of historical and religious monuments. If you wish to come to Coorg from Delhi, there are quite a few transport options.

Coorg is easily accessible. The nearest airport is located in the city of Bangalore. Road network also links the town with various other parts of the state like Mumbai, Nagpur, Mysore and other places. The most convenient transport mode to come to come to Coorg is through flights. Take a flight from Delhi to Bangalore and from Bangalore, take a car or bus to Coorg.  Bus services are quite developed and you can get both state run buses and private owned buses. You can also hire cars to reach Coorg. The roads and highways are well maintained and it takes around 5 hours to reach Coorg from Bangalore. The journey is quite pleasing.

If you are taking trains, the best option is to take a train from Delhi to Mysore and then drive to Coorg. Mysore is quite closer to Coorg and can be reached with 2 hours. You can easily track where my train is and can take the Mysore Swarna Jayanti Superfast Express. It usually takes around 45 hours to reach Mysore. The journey time is a bit big. However, if you wish to have leisured travel, train journey can be quite appropriate. You get to go through different states of Northern, central and southern India. It is advisable that you book a ticket in the AC coaches for better comfort.

In spite of being a hill station, roads are quite developed in Coorg. All places can be accessed through buses and cars. There are plenty of hotels in Coorg which offer accommodation of high standards at reasonable rates. There are luxury hotels, middle range hotels and also budget and economy hotels. One can also visit the rural areas to get a feel of the local lifestyle. Tourists can buy local artifacts from the markets and shops.
